IGNORANCE IS BLISS?
Some people think "Ignorance Is Bliss"! They assume that what they don't
know won't hurt them. However, there are really few areas where that might
be true. An area of life where this idea is definitely not true is with
regard to GOD AND HIS WILL! If the world could be saved by ignorance, the
best thing for us to do is never share the message of Jesus with them, thus
not giving them the opportunity to reject it. However that is not the way
God has focused on it.
As Paul had walked around in Athens, he noticed that the "city was full
of idols" (Acts 17:16); statues and monuments set up to honor various gods.
He also noticed one set up with the inscription "To the unknown god." (Acts
17:23) As Paul was given the opportunity to speak to a group who gathered to
hear the latest things of the day (Acts 17:21), he shared the truth about
the ONLY TRUE GOD. He also mentioned the subject of "ignorance." (You can
read the whole story in Acts 17:16-34)
Paul's message regarding "ignorance" was as follows:
"(30) The times of ignorance God overlooked, BUT NOW HE COMMANDS ALL
PEOPLE EVERYWHERE TO REPENT, (31) because he has fixed a day on which he
will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of
this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." (Acts
17:30-31 ESV)
God has given us His written word (the Bible) so that we can know what
His desire is for us. He has revealed to us what He expects of us. He has
made available to us the knowledge of the way of salvation AS HE HAS LAID IT
OUT.
John wrote. . .
"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of
God THAT YOU MAY KNOW THAT YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE." (1 John 5:13 ESV)
Yes, GOD WANTS US TO KNOW! AREN'T YOU GLAD? It is the KNOWLEDGE OF GOD
AND HIS WILL that is truly bliss because of the eternal hope of which He has
assured us in Christ.
Have a great day DELIGHTING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD!
